In universe there are many planets are traveling in space. We all are space travelers and our spaceship is the planet earth.

It is thought that the earth was born along with the solar system about 4550 million years ago and the elements composing the earth were formed by explosion of supernovae over more than 10,000 million years ago, long before the birth of the earth. The primitive solar nebulae were formed from these elements and then condensation leads to formation of the earth. Our planet appears to be big and sturdy with an endless ocean of air. Some distinguishing features of earth are the blue waters, brown and green land masses and white clouds set against a black background.

  > Approximately 70% of earth’s area is covered with water. Out of this only 1% we can use as drinking water and for other stuff because 97% is salt water and 2 % is water in form of frozen ice.

> The Earth’s interior is hot due to impacts, shrinkage and radioactive decay.

> Most of people think that the earth is round but actually it is pear-shaped because the top is pushed in and bottom bulges out. Distance around the earth at the equator is 24,901 miles.

> Earth spins or rotates when travelling around sun. Its path or orbit around the sun is 583,400,000 miles long. Earth travels along with this path at 66,000 mile/hour.

> Earth is located in the perfect place for our need of water if is closer or further away from sun all water on earth would either boil or freeze.

> The earth’s atmosphere extends out to 10,000 km.

> The earth’s molten iron core is responsible for a magnetic field.

> Earth doesn’t take 24 hours to rotate on its axis. It takes 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds.

> Earth doesn’t take 365 days to complete whole cycle around sun. It takes 365.26 days and that’s why we take an extra day in February every 4 year which is known as leap year.

> Presently, Earth is only planet where life is possible in our solar system.
